Default One more cam ????

I am going to put the SE 204 cams in my 06 FXST. Bike only has 6K miles on it. Do I need to replace the lifters when I install the cams or am I ok with original ones.

U'll be fine with the org lifters with just 6k on them. Just make sure the wrench puts them back in the same hole they came out of.

I done my cams at 16k, and most wrench's (3 of the 4 I talked to) said the cut off is 20K, but the one who did my cams said he likes to change at 15K.

So I figured I was on the fence,,, so I went on the positive side and put new one's in.

There is no need for U to replace them at that low of miles...

Thats a toss up, but if it were me I would. 6k on an '06 = lots of short trips. On most I would say no but if nothing else the age of them too. I'm sure others will chime in on this too

Again, its a matter or total RPMs on them..

2500 rpm for an hr = 150,000 total rpms per hr

15k miles at average 45 mph ='s - 333.3 hrs..

so total rpm ='s at 15K is close to 5 million revs..

Now with a bike with 6k on it, the bike at the same average it would be 140 hrs or close

So 2500 rpm for 6k miles = would be 340,000 rpms on the lifters.. So it'd be close to 2.1 million Rpm's...

So IMO Ur lifter are only less than 1/2 of needing to be replaced because of any wear..

If no part are changed out they should go 80 -100 k easy if the oils are changed reg..

Unless they go Bad...

Wow, so many numbers for this burned out brain. I think I'll leave in the originals. Thanks for the input.

Interesting numbers you have there, are you riding around at 5000 rpm's with an average of 45 mph ?
Rpm's are measured at the crank, since we are dealing with a 4 cycle engine, the cams rotate once per two crank revolutions. Possibly I didn't understand your numbers?

Your lifters are good but replace the inner cam bearings with Timken B148's,writing facing out, about $15. If you're retaining the cam plate, r&r the oil pressure spring with a Baisley LMR-002 spring ($13) to increase oil pressure. Are you taking the rocker boxes off or using adjustable push rods?

Lifters are good to go. Definitely new cam inner bearing with new cams. I'd pass on the Baisley spring... In fact, I did pass when I cammed my bike.

I gotta ask. Does that spring raise oil pressure by restricting flow. I was under the understanding that a Twinkie's lubrication system was based on the idea of high volume low pressure. Please explain why. I am changing my cams in a couple of weeks and will do this mod if you can tell me why.
Thanks

Oh. Op your litters should be fine

I am going to go with the adjustable push rods.
