Hi everyone my wife is thinking of getting a 2005 deluxe she has had her sportster for 3 years now and is ready to upgrade. Is there any know issues with this model of bike I know check the cam chain ten. but other that. The bike has 41,000 miles on it but I am not to worried about miles my Eglide has almot 80,000 miles on it. Thanks for any info you can give

2005 was a great year for Mc's ....Tell her to go for it!! but for that year and miles you shouldn't pay much more than $9,000!!!! My best friend purchased his 2002 FatBoy this summer with exactly 40,000 miles for 7,200!! My Scoot is a 2005 Heritage and haven't had any problems!!

Need to check the cam tensioners, best to just go ahead and replace with the hydraulic kit with the improved oil pump: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Another issue for some of the 05 models is that they have a valve seal issue. My 05 uses about 1 1/2 quarts of oil between oil changes and will foul the plugs if I don't check them regularly.

Cam followers/tensioners etc may be an issue, otherwise good bike all the way around. Big step up from the sporty, she wont be sorry. All good.

Default deluxe

Bought my 05 deluxe in sept of 04 no issues with it to date getting ready to do cam tensioners before riding season gets here. I think 40 thousand miles on it ia a bit for the year so i would watch what i pay for it. I know these motors can go for ever but it also depends on how it was treated. if you do not know much about bikes have it checked out by someone who does Good luck
