I wouldn't worry about it. Worst case scenario: you cut the length of the fishtails shorter. The I.D. of the inlet of the fishtail pipes are the same as the O.D. of the outlet of the head-pipes. So if you shorten the new fishtails at their inlets, they will be effectively shorter and will still fit just fine with the use of some simple straight brackets (4) available at the hardware store to connect the bracket on the pipes to the mounts on the frame. Four 1/2" long bolts and corresponding nuts will be needed too.

Though, in the end, I suspect you will be happy with the length you bought. Your new pipes will stick 9" farther back than the ones I have (mine are 30").

You don't have to have anything, but it looks great with both, 39s will be cool for you Dean don't sweat, as for cutting them down, not sure that's a good idea, as you would have an unchromed raw edge, if they really are too long for you, just buy some shorter ends and sell the 39s, there are enough people on here who have bought 33 + 36 who wish they went longer, I don't think you'd have any trouble selling.

They don't scrape.......much. seriously don't sweat the scraping, you'll be more pi**ed at banging your ankles everytime you walk round your bike.Best advice for you guys, Do not go smaller than 39s you'll be sorry and it'll cost you.

I would not recommend cutting them down. The extension does slip over the head pipe and slides behind the heat shield. The problem though is that the extension coupler is only about 4” long before the fishtail bells out to the O.D. that runs the length of the pipe. IMO you could only hack off an inch or so before you run the risk of not being able to sinch the pipes together securely. You might also run the risk of an exhaust leak at the union. The cut would be hidden but the mechanical connection would be compromised.

Here are some more pics of the 36" cholos in relation to the rear fender. In the interest of full disclosure, while my bike has not ever scraped, it is stock and has not been lowered.

Here's a couple I snapped of the 39" I installed tonight. Keep in mind everything is just lose fit for now so yes, the tips may look crooked etc. I'm glad I went with the 39s and after looking at it, I can see where there is room for 42s! LOL

As I said, I was worried about them being to long, but you won't be disappointed with the 39" from a visual standpoint.

Thanks for going to the trouble of pulling that off and snapping a shot! That definitely clears it up and now that I've got the pipes in hand it don't seem like much to install.
