aparently it is better than the HD factory oil, but not much. A buddy of mine is an amsoil dealer, I will get some. not sure that will fix the problem though.
OK so point taken, now that I am back working, next oil change gets better oil.
Hey OWOF, how long have you been with the Daytona BFs? I hear your house is open to the public on weekends, One of these days I will make a weekend trip over. Would love to talk to you about the MC if it's not against the by-laws

Public is always welcome. Always look forward to mtg new friends.
Castrol is fine...as long as you change it....Drink the Kool aid if you want...Not saying Amsoil ain't good...i have used it but if you change your oil regularly any 20w50 or 15w50 either Auto or V-twin oil is fine....remember it doesn't share the primary or tranny like metrics do so any Motor oil in that weight will be fine...Primary and tranny??? I now just use HD formula Plus... tried all the others and at 68000 miles in 4 years the bike works, shifts behaves whatever... about the same... Again...just MAKE SURE you change it....
I now use 15w50 full syn from NAPA...3.99 a quart sometimes...i change it between 4000-5000 miles...
ok. so if I put shocvkproof in my tranny, can I put royal purple in my primary without it causing any problems...I know with stock HD lube the Primary / tranny fluids are interchangable?
Notgrownup, I change my engine oil every 3000 miles and I do primary and tranny every other oil change.

I understand oils have to meet SAE requirements etc, but their V-twin oil is poor by comparison. Realizing the temps HD's run I' would advise against it. I'm not an expert. Castrol braggs about thermal breakdown protection and failed miserably on the viscosity test. And It didn't do well on the wear test. I ride the hell out of my bikes, and frequently change the oil. But if an oil is going to fail under certain conditions, it doesn't frequent changes may not prevent damage.
I know a lot of people swear by RP. I tried it in my Supercharged car and within a week noticed purple drips under it which became progressively worse every few days. I removed it under advice of the guy that built the superchargers and worked for GM, and after removal, it sealed back up and no more leaks. Just my experience.
