That bracket is the upper engine mount and you haave to leave it there. they do make ones that look much better.

I did the same as you are intending - ground off the tab that the horn bracket attaches to and painted it. I thought it looked unfinished with the tab left on. I didn't bother removing the whole bracket, just primed and painted it with black touch up paint.

I also did the 2" tank lift and relocated the stock horn under the tank on the opposite side of the backbone. I made up a little bracket to locate it on the opposite side of the backbone where the head stay bolts on. It is a tight fit with the 2" tank lift, but it does work and is very well hidden. This saved me the bother of extending the wires for the horn which I would have needed to do to mount it on the front down tube, and demonstrated my green credentials by re-using rather than buying a new horn (nothing to do with the fact that I don't like spending my money!)

I did look at the time I did the mod, but all the ones I found had a tab of some sort to mount coils - if you find any sensibly priced chrome ones without the tab let me know! Until then I'll make do with the touch up paint

Coil went down in front of the splash guard - again I made my own bracket rather than paying for the Exile Cycles kit.

If I remember correctly they are over 3 feet long. Works like a charm though - no issues in the 2 years since I did it. - Here's to innovation and sheer bloody mindedness !!
