It's probably like an earlier small block Chevy. The orig LT1's had a steel crank. Neat to have. But probably only really necessary if you're on the circle-track at 7500 rpm all day. For the average street rod, a cast crank is fine.
The bearing thing would worry me though. A motor putting out any kind of ponies, I would want gear-drive to be an option.

Are the 06 heads really better?
