Hey guys, I had a issue with the scoot today. Traveling down a 50 mph road for about 4 miles hit a slight decline and at the bottom give her a little gas and she is dead. (I didnt hit the kill switch) I was able to coast off the road and tried to restart on the way to the shoulder...did not start but did turn over. After I was on the sidewalk (shoulder was a turn lane) I did a quick check to see if something stuck out at me and nothing was abnormal. Check oil, gas, plug wires, Etc. all was good. Lights in the cluster were on and it still had juice for restart..tried to restart and it turns over but no start...after about 10min of scratching the dome I tried to start it again and bam it starts.
Could there be a "vapor lock" in the carb, one time electrical glitch or something that has happen to one of you??? or some other idea from you guys.
My scoot is stock 88 except K&N filter and pulled baffles out 12 years ago.

Wouldn't expect a vapor lock unless it was really hot out. If things are starting to stick in the carb, the angle could have caused you to flood the carb. A little preventive carb cleaner treatment might keep it from happening again.
First thing that comes to mind is clogged screen on the petcock... A clogged vent will also put you on the side of the road....both will allow the bike to start after a wait, but will raise their ugly head the next time you ride.
I had a problem with the contacts on my ignition switch getting a little corroded. First speedo would not work then seconds later it would die. I would pull over, cycle the switch a few times and it would start. To fix I pulled the switch and cleaned the contacts. Just an idea for you to check.
I believe you have a crank position and cam position sensor. Also have an ignition module, which would (I think) give a check engine light if a sensor was to fail. No spark with no check engine light is probably a bad module. Random ignition failure is usually a sensor or module intermittent failure and sitting and cooling a bit generally results in a restart.
Lundee...I don't know for sure but I think that mine only has a petcock screen...not an actual fuel filter??? I may be wrong...but your fix is probally the best place to start with cleaning the contacts??? thanks guys for some info..I was drawing blanks sitting there on the sidewalk.
