Hi Steve, I have the same bike 2012 Heritage Softail Classic, with the exact same problem.
Bought it brand new two Saturdays ago and with only two hundred miles or so the front brake did exactly as you said. Took it to dealer after work and they said air was in the line so they bled the brakes and everything seemed fine for about two days. Same problem, pulled out of garage to go to work and front brake handle went almost to grip. Took it back to dealer Monday after work and they still have it. They are replacing the master cylinder and waiting for the new one to get in. Don't know why they couldn't FedEx it.
Sorry to hear you're having the same problem. Hopefully replacing the master cylinder will take care of it for us though!
