Default Fuel pump Install?

Looking for some advice from those that have installed a fuel pump in a FI tank. Bike is 01 Fatboy. Pump came out as expected. I have taken out and put in a couple times. The articulated arm is retracted like it is supposed to be (marked to make sure it was retracted fully). Disconnect line is connected. Float is in correct spot.

It is as if something is keeping it from seating properly. It is about half inch from sitting flush (without gasket). Should I just push it down hard. Just don't want to screw it up (bend something)...that would make the great deal on tins not so good.

Thanks for any advice.

Are you trying to put the fuel pump in the tank you took it out from or into a "new" tank?

If it is a new-for-you tank, what year is it? Might be slightly different set up. Check the inside against the original tank to see if they are the same.

It is a new to me tank. Both tanks are 01 FI Fatboy tanks (new one has the 01 fi ID tag). These tins were run for about a hundred miles then the guy swapped them and put in storage. All the stickers are on it. I will check to make sure they look the same on the inside to be safe. When I took pump out of the old tank it was seated flush to the tank with the factory gasket.

Thanks. I had looked at those before installing. I thought for sure after watching that getting it in the tank would have been the hard part. Also searched the forum but nothing helpful.

Mine always sticks up on the front right corner about 1/2 inch and I just push it down and bolt it up. You are fighting the spring are.

It didn't pop up. That is the one thing that scares me. It would be different if I had to just force down one side.
