I'm looking to put a set mini apes on my 05 springer softail and I am looking to see what others have went with. I don't think I can just put a pair of wide glide bars on like a standard. Any input would be great.
I have mini apes on my softail. Works for me - the reach is just right and the angle/height combination keeps the hand to arm angle comfortable. I'm pretty small - 5'8" 150 lbs, it's all a matter of fit and depends on your seat as well. Some of the threads on the site explore this matter with more depth.
Howdy HD, we meet again. Interesting that you should ask about mini-apes, because I just ordered them for my Springer last Tuesday. If you have a catalog, they are on page 340. They are called Fat Mini-Apes. They should be here in a week and as soon as I can get them put on, I will post about how they look and feel. According to my catalog, they are a new item. They will have stainless cables because the black lines aren't available. I sat on a bike at the HD shop that had mini-apes on them and I am pretty sure that I will like them. It might be a couple of weeks or so, but I will try to let the people know.
Good for you, I like the style of the apes on a Harley. No offense, but I have heard that apes that are tall like the ones that you are going to put on might have an effect on your arms and make them more tired, have your heard that?
Springer, I have always love big apes. I don't have the time like I used to. I cant go on many long rides like before due to new responsibilities. The only reason I did not have them on my 92 was the fact I rode 33 thousand miles a year and many 1200 mile trips. Now that I don't do as much 1200+ mile rides anymore I thought I would change up. My friend has the same set up on his springer and we just did a 400 mile ride last month and he said it was uncomfortable at times. The wind tired him out during the end of the ride. I think the bars may be higher on a springer front end rather than my fat boy front end. I sat on a used fat boy at the dealer that had 16s and it came right level with my shoulders.
I saw a guy the other day with some pretty tall ones that was really struggling at starts and stops.
Don't know if it was from the tall apes or just the one opperating the bike.
I've never had the chance to ride a bike with the tall apes, but I have heard from people that have. Some say that they don't mind them and others say that they make their arms more tired than the smaller apes. I guess that it depends on the individual.
