How much can u turn the idle down on a fi bike and still maintain the correct oil pressure....my fatty idle's around 1000 and I'd like to see it around 750ish....it would sound much better at idle...
If you go for the "potato Potato" all you'll get are them fried...pistons that is. Perhaps 900 would be my guess, not 750, but we need the experts to chime in.
You'll never get the old fashioned and much beloved idle sound though.
The SEPST will allow you to go to 800 RPM, but I don't know if it is cool or not.
I had mine at 920 for a long time, and I just didn't really care for it that low. I put it back to 1000. Before I had a FI bike, I would run my bike at around 900, and when winter came. I would raise it to around 1200.
Stock 88ci EFI warm idle is 1000 to 1100. Cold idle is a little higher. 03 manual says your should not to run it lower than 850. The SE cam plate has an improved oil pump with 20% greater output so the 900 to 950 should be no problem.
It sounds better, but the 204 cam also adds to the new sound as well.
If Thunder Max ever gets a system designed to work with 2011 and up Softails then you could get your idle down below 600 rpm. There is also this option http://www.riders-shop-pavia.it/ it is called MAD. Earlier model bikes idled low without tearing up the engine components so I wouldn't think the newer models would be any different if you install a high flow oil pump.
