Default Do you get a numb a** from riding? (heritage)

I have an 04 flstci and this is my first bike, so i dont have anything to compare my thoughts to.

when riding for maybe an hour or more, i begin feeling like my a** is going numb. I try to wiggle around and it doesnt really seem to help, but when i get off the bike it goes away within moments.

Not a huge deal since it goes away so quickly once i pop off the bike, just wondering if this is common or if i was possibly too heavy or big and would benefit from changing the seat out.

Thanks

I added just a little memory foam padding under the seat cover on my FLSTC and it helped a lot. It was easy to do and cost noting since I had some extra foam.

Welcome to motorcycling! You will build up a tolerance somewhat but really long trips will always be tough.

I have from longer trips but I tend to follow the rule of stopping every 100 miles or so for a break, gas, smoke, whatever and that tends to help. The memeory foam thing I have heard a lot about but have no experience with it. Will probibly find an apolsterer to shave down the stock one and add in a layer on of these days but for now I am pretty happy with the stocker.

it's normal, I also notice that if I don't wear gloves my hands are numb as well sometime, it's well worth the ride though , you can try getting a different seat. I plan on sending my seat off and getting some foam in it.

It takes a bit to build up those *** callouses. How you sit on the bike also comes into play, foot position, how much stress is on your legs, etc, etc...

Everybody's body is different, so one seat will not work for everybody. Having someone customize the seat to fit your body will help a lot. This guy built a seat for someone that was about 3 ft wide so it would fit him right! (My last wife's seat was 2 inches wider than mine! )

Give your *** some time to break in. IMO, the Heritage seat is one of the most comfortable HD stock seats. I have a Mustang 17.5" touring seat that I break out for road trips but I still prefer the stock seat for normal riding. Just feels better.

Truth be told I'm still undecided about whether the Mustang is more comfortable even on long road trips. One thing I definitely don't like about the one I have is that it feels too wide in the crotch area. I think if I had it to do over again I'd go with a more narrow model Mustang.

One thing I found that helped with the monkey butt on long rides was to wear boxer shorts and riding pants (no rear pockets). The idea being that the less seams you have bearing on the seat the more comfortable the ride. I was a bit skeptical but after doing a 1200 mile iron butt ride on the stock seat I became a believer.
