Once I got things broken loose (with the help of Mr. Hammer) I ran the jam nut up and down the threads a few times. Be sure to clean the threads, no sand or dirt. After the jam nut I had to really work at getting the shock adjuster to rotate. The entire outside of the shock assembly should rotate via the spanner wrench. When you get that turning you will want to rotate the shock thru its entire range. It will be obvious once it breaks free. Just remember to get some anti-seize on the threads.

Guys thanks for all your comments. After reading everyones comments and looking at the service manual--I decided to look at one more place for some additional information---the owners manual. ON page 63 of the Softail Models 2012 Harley Davidson Owners Manual--there is a simple explanation and a good diagram as to where the spanner goes and how to make the adjustment. I am going to attempt this this afternoon, so if anyone reads it and see that it is not accurate--please advise. My bike seems to want to buck me off when I hit an expansion joint on the highway. I cant tell if its bottoming out or not--but the ride is smooth on all other accounts. Think I will try to stiffen it up a bit.

Ill let you all know.
