Was ready to make the move to the 07 Fatboy until I started reading about all the tranny issues. [sm=confused06.gif]Guess I’ll wait until the 08’s come out and hopefully the tranny issues will be resolved. Man I was so looking forward to starting next riding season on a BT[sm=smiley19.gif].

I have not read of any transmission complaints with the 2007 softail models. My only concern with the 2007s is the reported heat that is put off by the new engine, since I live in SW Florida.
I assume that once the 2007 has been dialed in properly the heat is a non issue, at least no worst then your average air cooled HD.

I have an 07 SG and have "NO" tranny issues at all!!!
Heat from the Y pipe crossover was greatly reduced when I went to true duals.
I know of a new owner of an 07 FB and he too has "NO" tranny issues!!!
Great bike with 3K miles so far!
Ride the one your gonna buy, lug it around in 5th and 6th gear, you'll know if it's got a tranny "problem". Most of the noise in mine went away with the torque smoothing service update.
Don't buy an '07 Fatboy. The front wheel is not centered in the forks, and until recently, the forks were actually chipping paint off the front fender. Harley did a recall and basicly ground an eliptical area off the upper shroud. Pretty Mickey Mouse solution in my mind.

This may be a legitimate reason not to buy an 07, but I asked the question in another thread, as as far as I can tell, there is no reason with the trannys or the engine to wait. The issues are isolated and there will always be issues. The people with issues are making lots of noise, as would I, but the vast majority are well satisfied with zreo problems.
The majority of the people who were conserened with the heat issue seem to be the people who got earlier production models. Mine was one of those and itseemed to be OK, but this ismy first Harley and don't have any previous experience.
Since I had thedealer do theECM updateit definatly runs cooler and smoother than it did before.
As for tranny problemsthere have only been two reported (here) that I am aware ofand it was the dip stick breaking off in the trannythat was the problem. Seems that they are made of a cast material and can break from engine vibration. But if its only happened a couple of times I don't see it as being anything like a serious problem.
On the other hand if it worries you any you can always measure where the full mark is for future reference and just cut the silly thing off. I mean how often do you really need to check the tranny fluid level if its not leaking out on you, and if it is,a dip stick sure isn't going to fix it.
Overall I am VERY happy with mine and can't think of a single reason you would want to wait.

The front wheel is not centered in the forks.....
My reply to this is, "So what?"
The offset is too small to notice unless pointed out and it has absolutely no effect on the bike's handling. This is not the first and certainly won't be the last bike with an offset front and/or rear wheel. Initially, the upper fork covers were too long, but this issue has been remedied by the cutouts. It doesn't appear like they were "ground" in as you state, however. In this photo, you can see the cutout on the inside of the left fork. Despite silly "Mickey Mouse" characterizations, it's a fix that works and that's all that matters to the practical.
Regarding the so-called tranny problems, although a few have had legitimate ones, most I've seen involved noise complaints caused by the straight-cut (and stronger) 5th gear. This is a sure sign the complainants' exhausts are too quiet.
