Proud owner of two Harleys, 1997 Heritage Springer and a 2003 Ultra Classic. Just purchased the springer and will probably sell the Ultra.
I don't get it??? In your very first post you said you have a 97 Heritage Springer. How wouldn't you know? Also, I quick glance at a simple picture would answer that question. Are we missing something in your original question?

Are there two gas caps on the tank of a 97 Springer Really should have asked if BOTH caps are used as I can only access one!!!!
That helps, I figured something had to be missing. Like Tom84 said, in case you're not aware, both caps turn opposite directions of each other. To loosen the left cap you turn it clockwise. The right car will turn counter clockwise to loosen.
I had a set of 6 gallon tanks on for about 12 years and my 4.2 gallon tanks were in storage with the oem caps on. They were stuck on both tanks and I couldn't undo them by hand. I gave them a shot of WD40 everyday. Finally 3 days later they both unscrewed like they were never stuck.
