I don't have a clue about what size you need but you can buy a complete Metric/SAE kit for $15.00 at Harbor Freight.

Granted not the Highest Pro Machinist quality that will last years under everyday use but they will clean up threads for that now and maybe next year need.

You can spray some carb cleaner in the hole, let it sit and you should be able to chase the chrome out one groove at a time. Is it a big gob, or just at the very start of the thread. Post a pic and everyone will give to a good idea.

looks like it just needs to have a tap run through to clean threads up. read some reviews on dennis kirk site and seems this has happend a few other times, most said it takes a 18 mm 1.5 tap for the job. is this a standard thread and is it course or fine?

It is the same as the large sparkplugs they used to use years ago. If you get a thread chaser from autozone it has 14mm and 18mm and use the 18mm side and that should do it for you. think it is 18x1.5 and thats in between fine and course ..... 1.25 is fine and goes to 1.0

Blk and Chrome is exactly right. Its one of those $10 tools that's PRICELESS when you need it.
