Default Softail Lowering kits

I am looking for a lowering kit for my 93 FXSTS, but I really don't want to have to disassemble the shocks.

I have seen the kits available for most of the 2000+ softail models that don't require disassembling the shocks, but I have not seen one for the older softails.

Does anyone know of a kit for the older softails that does not require disassembling the shocks?

I'm sure progressive makes a kit that drops in your front forks for your year. I think any kit for 41mm front wide glides work. At least that's what I saw when I was shopping for my old dyna wide glide.

I think Harley sells a set of lowered shocks that will probably get you at least an inch. Price was a factor for me, so I toughed it out and tore the shocks apart and went 2" lowering bolts (ebay). I've got a thread around here somewhere showing how (without a press).

I have an '09 Heritage and bought the Arlen Ness product to apply the rear shocks. HD sells the same type of bolts, but can only reduce the height by 1"....AN is a potential of 2". I tried living with a 2" drop and it LOOKED great, but rode poorly. Raised it 1" and still didn't like the choppy ride. My advice to you is to put Deluxe shocks on the Heritage to get the drop in the rear without sacrificing ride quality.

I have H-D lowering shocks on my '04. My research revealed that H-D's shocks will only do 3/4 inch. That is max h-d recommends. These didn't seem to compromise ride quality. I got em on flea bay for $100 NIB. When I grow up I'll splurge on a set of 422's. Got other stuff to do to it first, since these eliminated the gap tween the tire and fender and seem to work fine.

Thanks for all the info. I think it may be just as easy to bolt on a new set of lowering shocks. There are some on fleabay for just over $100, so I will probably go that route.

I agree the the best way to go would be to just replace the shock if you don"t want to disassemble your OEMs to install the bolts. But you won't be happy with those $100.00 eBay shocks. They're a total waste of money. You'll want to go with Progressive Suspension 422's. If you can't afford them you'll have to watch for a used set. Or a used set of OEM's with Lowering Bolts already installed. I've seen them on eBay and Craig's List in the past. But you won't want to **** away your money on a set of $100.00 lowering shocks.

I don't understand why so many guys have issues with the cheapo bolts off ebay. I've got a set on my sled right now and they ride about as good as stock at about 1 1/2" down. I've hit the stopper a hand full of times with these bolts in for about 15K miles but I think only one of those times was solo riding, the rest was 2 up. I see no difference in handling but I've also got short exhaust. I think I might drag a little more if I had a thunder header or something like that on.

Then again, I used to ride rigids so maybe my spleen can't feel the beating it's taking.

I have the 422's on my ride. They work ok, but if you ever wanna switch to the shotgun or similar air ride just wait til you have enough...
