Mechanical issues come easy for me to fix, but, I am also a retired machine repairman.

I have family members that can barley turn a screwdriver. I get a lot of calls to help fix there problems..

In this case I put some of the blame on Samson for not having better instructions, (like putting the smaller piece on first and making sure the nut on the clamp is up)
They know that the average person can put their pipes on, if they would help show the easy and correct way to install them, IMO they should provide that info in their instructions.

The OP has to have a decent mechanical understanding or he would not have gotten the first side of the pipes on.

I f*ck up waaaay many more things than I've fixed up on my bike. It's so bad I have my indie's number on speed dial to pick up my f*ck-ups. He won't allow me to mess with my bike anymore but I still do. And I still mess things up ! Hahahaha!!!!

With that clarification I apologize for the remark pertaining to the plugs. In this situation I would bolt the left bracket to the tail pipe. Then slide the tail pipe onto the crossover pipe while supporting it with a block of wood or something to that nature. Get everything lined up and situated where it needed to be making sure that both pipes extended the same length in the rear of the bike and that they were both dead level. Make sure the tail pipe bracket is sitting flush against the frame. Get a center punch and hammer and mark where the bolt holes need to be using the holes in the bracket to center the marks. Then remove the tail pipe and bracket. Then drill and tap the two bolt holes. As simple as that.

What kind of tap are you using? I like to make about a 1/4 turn then back it out to clean out the cuttings to prevent them from clogging up the cutters.

Wow...would've bet those were plugs - sorry. Might want to take a break & call Sampson on Monday when you've calmed down a bit. I'd be pee'd too w/all the problems you're having w/these pipes. Gotta agree...every set I've had the instructions are obviously written by the builder's 8-yr-old...
