Default Newbie Considering Deuce

I'm looking at switching from a sport tourer to a 2001 deuce. Any particular warnings or admonitions about this model or year? Suitable for 2 up (this model has dual backrests). I'm a little concerned the ride will be too harsh for the wife.

I rode one and really liked it, but it was a short ride. A 2001 will have the standard issues with the cam chain tensioners. If they haven't been replaced, budget for it.

Depends on Ur age and what U want.

My son had a 07 for two yrs, he really like the bike on short trips but about 2 hrs was all he could do before his back would start to hurt. Hes in good shape and works out 2 time a weeks and came from owning 3 Crotch rockets in the prev 6yrs.

So U may want to change the bars if U have the same issue.

The rear stock pillion is not much for U wife. but there should be other seat options U can get.

The only other thing about a Deuce is parts.. If I was U I'd thing about what I wanted to add later and then get a HD part book and see If they will fit the Deuce..

The son also found that a some of parts that he wanted to add just wasn't made for the Deuce. The Book will tell U if it will or not.

He traded for an 09 NT it was better but still did't fit his road trips.

For all the above reasons he then bought a new 10 Street Glilde.

Now he's Happy, totally.

The Deuce is a great ride, love mine. Not a long range bike though and not really great for Two up riding. If you're concerned about your wife's comfort get a touring model. Not as sporty but built for cruising.

I have an '02 Deuce and love it. Like others have said, its not a touring bike, but two up riding is reasonably comfortable. I've had my wife on the back for a few hours in between stops and she's been fine with it. She needs to reposition her feet from time to time, but I got her larger, flatter pegs and that's made a big difference. All in all a great bike, but more suited for trips on the shorter side. And as others mentioned, be sure what direction you want to go with customizing it before you buy it because many softail parts won't fit. But there are plenty of parts that are specific to that bike that will fit. Plus, if you're into customizing, you can make almost anything fit. Good luck.
