Default Problem installing lowering bolts

Well today was interesting. My bike was in the shop to get a bunch of stuff done.

On the list, install lowering bolts in the rear. After the bolts were changed on both shocks we couldn't get the shocks back on the bike, they were to long and wouldn't clear the frame (thin brace section).

Two techs and myself all tried and were left scratching our heads. One guy said we could grind the brace and I really didn't like that idea.

Being frustrated with the situation I made a phone call to JD at Shotgun and ordered his air ride! I then told the tech to put the stock **** back on the bike. Even the shocks with the stock bolts were very hard to get past the frame. I have read many stories on here of this procedure and have never heard of Nyome having problems so I'm not sure what the issue is. They were the cheap bolts from eBay, which I will gladly give to anyone who is intereted in a set.

Anyway that is all for now, crappy day that hopefully yields an awesome outcome.

Now that's one hell of an excuse to pull the trigger on a Shotgun!! But what a great one!

HEHEHE j/k brother I guess the silver lining is, it made you buy a Shotgun and you lost some weight, but only in the wallet!

Installed the cheapos on mine, didn't have any problems. Did you put a floor jack under the rear tire to lift it and move the swingarm further back? Or if no jack available, you could put the bolts through the crossmember first? Can't believe two HD techs couldn't figure out how to install shocks.....actually I can after some of the stories I've heard. Damn shame really...

I would certainly NEVER take my bike back to that shop!

I work at the dealership where the bike was being worked on and after messing with it for a half hour with the tech I just walked up to my desk and called JD to see if he had ever heard of this before. He is such a cool dude that "I'll take it" just came out.

I was going to hold off till winter, not anymore!

Wasn't just the techs, I tried too. Lol. I work at the dealership and my guys are good peeps. I was changing rims too so there wasn't a tire on the bike.

Not sure what the issue was, guess it doesn't matter now. Unless of course the Shotgun doesn't fit.

Seems strange. I used the cheap $16.00 bolts off of Ebay and mine went right in. Not getting the swingarm high enough seems to be the only reason why the shocks with the longer bolts would not fit. I had to jack the rear wheel and swingarm up to where it started lifting the bike up off of the stand and they just fell right in place.

I had issues as well. Left it for a day and then went back to it. Left side slipped in nice and easy, right side was a pain. Had to angle the rear up and against the oil line. Was able to get it in then. Thing is real low now.

I did it in my garage with bike jack, jack stands and floor jack. Alone. Did the whole shock as I didn't have a shock compressor. And I hadn't seen the alternative methods of compressing the shocks for disassembly.

If you are serious about giving the bolts away, I would gladly take them. I am considering lowering my bones....
