Default shifting seems to slam

my recently aquired 07 Deuce (4K miles) seems like the transmission slams hard thru all the gears. From neutral to first i can sometimes get it to click by pushing gently instead of kicking it down but second thru sixth it definately is a hard shift no matter how easy it try to change. Clutch adjustment needed or is this just normal? Fluid level is good.

Default Mine is the same I think

My '04 Deuce hits the shifts pretty hard. When warm/hot it is a little smoother than cold but still mostly "hit's" with very decisive shifts. No grinding or anything. Just fairly solid "clunks."

I would start with clutch adjustment and even though your fluid level is full, you said it is new to you, did you change the fluid? If you didn't I sure would and I would also go to a syn. base fluid too. That sometimes knocks that hard shifting out of there, shifts much smoother with a syn. fluid, IMHO!!

I would start with a clutch adj. Adj both the clutch and the cable, change the trans fluid to a 70-90-syn gear oil and that should make it shift better. One other thng to ck is the primary fluid, too full or thick will not allow the clutch plates to disengage fully. I would change the primary fluid to an atf and don't overfil.

I've got a buddy that has an 07 Duece and it's doing the same thing. 2nd through 6th shifts very hard. It's like hitting an anvil with a hammer, a loud almost high pitched sound. He's been trying to figure it out with no luck? I'm curious to hear what others may have come up with.

4K, that ain't even broken in yet. Drain the fluids and replace with Redline Shockproof in the tranny and Redline Primary fluid in the primary. You will see a difference. Good Luck.

Of course it's an 07. Did they not have compensator problems?

Uh, this was first posted almost a year ago.

But, I'll play along.

Maybe it's just the 6 speed trans as my 06 Deuce shifts great. Very little 'clunk' when stationary and 'clicks' when on the move.
