yes its possible to tilt the fairing back some depending on the handle bars but the whole purpose of the batwing is to deflect the wind around you and crank out some tunes !
I think a batwing/fairing looks out of place on a softail, but that's just me. If you've got a fully bagged bike, adding a fairing is really no big deal. At that point, it's pretty much all about comfort anyway.
