Default switching headlight

I'm wanting to get a new headlight, I like the look of the longer bullet shape that is also smaller in diameter. 4 1/2 by 7" I have an fxst. Any problems with fitment? Will it mount rite up like original? Thanks

On the bullet style headlights you may have to change out the stock mount to one that moves the light farther out if the new light has to much of the housing behind the mounting tabs or the bucket will hit the frame neck. Also, a lot of people don't realize this but the majority of aftermarket lights use the same bulb and bulb socket as the stock light. It makes for a cleaner look to remove the stock harness and bulb socket from the stock light and use it in the aftermarket light. No need to cut and splice wires. With the 4 1/2" light you may be disappointed in the look, as it will seam small between the wide forks.

Good info, exactly what I was looking for. You get the look I'm going for, what size would look right on my style of bike? I doo like the bullet shape. Is would be great If I could use the same internals so as not to cut and splice. Thanks

I dont think the orig wires are long enough for keeping oem internals. Some of those bullet lights move the bulb forward like 3-4 more inches.

Is there a certain light that someone has done without splicing?

I would think that there would have to be some slack.

The one that I installed on the '09 StreetBob I used to have was one of those $100.00 5 3/4" jobs. It was flawless and made out of aluminum. I think a 5 3/4" would look better on an FXST than a 4 1/2". I unplugged the headlight harness from the main harness under the tank. I pulled the pins out of the plug, making note of which wire went into which hole in the plug. Then pulled the harness out thru the front of the headlight bucket. I removed socket and pigtail from the aftermarket light and installed the factory socket and harness in it's place. When I first installed it, the bracket that I had purchased pushed the light out too far for my taste so I cut the bracket down and drilled a new hole in it to bring the light closer in. In these pics I had converted the frontend over to a Wide Glide style. Which is basically the same as an FXST. The first pic is when I first installed it. The second pic you can see that the light is closer in after the bracket mod.

I put on a 4.5" Adjure Sunset Blvd on my FXSTC and am very pleased with the look and quality stuff. I would take some pics for you but the bike is at the other house 500 miles away. Adjure has a sale on some combos as low as $100 including headlight bucket lens with hardware.
