Direct link tuner installed-no difference?
I just had a Direct Link racing tuner installed on my 09 Night Train after I installed V&H big shot staggered exhaust & Kuryakyn velociraptor air cleaner. I don't feel any difference in performance at all. I thought I would feel that extra "punch" when I lay on the throttle. I did get a performance curve chart that shows the before & after results of r.p.m. & torque. Am I expecting to much or have others had the same experence?A Direct Link racing tuner is simular to Harleys Screamin' Eagle kit.

You should notice some torque increase.
All your add on tuner (piggy back) is doing right now is keeping the air fuel ratio in a range that doesn't burn your valves. You have to actually dyno tune a tuner to find the best performance but I'm willing to bet that when compared to a canned map, you wouldn't see a difference of more than 3 h.p. additional when the mods are just pipes and an air cleaner unless the canned map isn't really anything like what you actually have. You can move the torque curve somewhat with a tuner, also, if it will allow you to adjust the timing. Without knowing a lot about your system (I have never heard of a
'Direct Link' tuner) it's hard to give good advice.
You should get about 10 h.p. on older fuel injected setups (TC 88's) for an air cleaner and pipes. I don't know what the common results are for newer bikes.
If a dealer is doing the 'tuning' they will probably still comply with the EPA. That doesn't produce power. A higher end replacement ECM will give you a bit more than the piggy back tuners but you still need to fiddle with the curves or have it dyno tuned to get the best results in my opinion.

Unless you are riding a VROD NO HARLEY is KA fast.

A Direct Link is not a "Piggy Back Tuner" it is the same as a SERT, TTS it is a flash tuner that is purchased by the shop and allows them to buy multiple use licenses for it so they can flash (dyno) tune multiple bikes instead of buying a tuner for each bike. The bike owner does not get the "link" or the soft ware.
To the OP , a tune is only as good as the skill of the mechanic doing it. You may be leaving a lot on the table if the tuner was real good, many of the shops out there will just flash a "canned MAP" and not spend the 2-4 hours on the dyno to truly do a custom tune. Post your before and after dyno sheets.
XARAN.....The bike was on the dyno as I know my mechanic & before I had it installed he ran through with me exactly what would be done. He's well regarded as doing a quality job also. The bike runs great-no complaints but just thought I'd see faster exceleration. I do notice better gas mileage & the bike does run cooler. I would post the dyno sheet (which I have in hand) but I'm too much of a butthead to figure out how to get it on my computer at this stage I'm still tyring to post a good picture of my bike. But thanks for the reply.
