has anyone out there installed a teardrop tool box on a 06 softail with the 200 rear tire. the harley catalog lists that it will not fit the '06 but i was hoping someone has made it work. i am trying to find a little extra storage( few basic tools etc.) on a 06 springer softail but having trouble finding a way to mount a bag of some sort on it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you have a beautiful deuce. if you do not mind me asking how did you mount the tool box to yours. i am told that that tool box does not fit the deuce as well and that the 06 softail frame is similar to yours.
I installed a left-side teardrop tool box on my â06 FXSTi with the 200mm tire. The toolbox bracket has 3 holes, 2 upper and 1 lower. The lower one mounts to the passenger footpeg, and the 2 upper holes are supposed to mount to the 2 forward-most fender strut bolts. On the â06, the 2 fender strut bolts are further apart than on previous years, so you can only use the one closest to the back. This is not a problem though, when you tighten the fender strut down, it pinches the bracket in place. So it is firmly attached and looks like it is made for that year. Hope this helps. No, doesn't rattle; it's on there pretty tight. There is a passenger footpeg extension you will need to get to extend the footpeg past the toolbox. Yes, opposite of the exhaust.

thanks for the info. That is what i was wanting to know. It looked to me like the two top bolt holes were further apart on the 06 and newer. I will probably get one pretty quick. Does it work out well?
You'll like the box. I started out with one on the right side to hold tools.
I liked it so well I added one on the left side to equalize the looks, and it now is home to most of my electronics (pager module, running light module, load equalizer, and future stuff planned)
I would have stuffed the ECM in there but the ECM is too big.
