Default Shortening Sissy Bar

I have a 2005 softail standard with the harley tall sissy bar. The dealer threw it in for free, but its a little taller than I like. Its great for a passenger and the t-bag I carry, but i'm not happy with the looks. I would love to shorten it a few inches and it would be perfect. There is plenty of room to make it shorter, but will involve cutting it off where it mounts and drilling and tapping new holes for the mounting screws. I assume these are hollow but hate to take it back off to see. Looking for any suggestions on the best way to do this or would it be better to just buy a shorter one.

Thanks

The sissy bar is not hollow, would be tough to drill through if you don't have the right equipt. Might be better off buying the shorter bar.

It's not hollow, but solid stock. I cut mine to shorten it, slipped it back into the mounts, marked where to drill the new holes, and did so with an electric hand drill, then hand tapped the new holes. I did go the next size larger on the mounting bolts, from 1/4-20 to 5/16-18. Pretty easy if you're at all handy with tools.

id consider looking for a shorter bar, you may want to take a trip and mount a t-bag or something and need a taller sb. they are all over ebay for a song!! good luck!
