Default decel pop normal?

I have a 2009 cross bones I bought used in November with 8500 miles. I had a complete inspection including compression test done when I bought it and all was good. It has a velocity stack and custom cut pipes that are loud as hell. I never ran this set up before so I was expecting the loud noise, never thought much of it until I rode with a buddy who says decel POP means its running rich. It was dyno tuned by previous owner and has a sert on it. How worried should I be?

From what I've gathered on here, running a little rich is not a bad thing. As long as you're not shooting flames and ruining plugs, a rich mix will run cooler and last longer. It's running too lean that ya gotta worry about. They say "lean is mean, but rich will run forever". As for the decel pop, not sure if that's caused by lean or rich, someone else will chime in on that I'm sure. Just out of curiosity, what's your gas mileage?

Awesome article, I feel much better, crazy pictures of exhaust too, mine are super short and wide like those.

Good find Jimmers! The OP needs a baffle at least to get some control of the exhaust pulses. Guys I've talked about with about this look at me like I've grown 2 heads when I tell them they are lean on decel. I only found this out thru experience of my own and a little research. Added Thunder Torque inserts and the pop and backfire too went away. As a bonus, it really woke up my bike.

Popping indicates something's not mixing right...could be exhaust leak, or intake leak. Rich tune's another avenue. Check SERT map & maybe reduce fuel a tad between cruise & decel transition point.

A little decel popping isn't a big deal. I can richen up my PCV and get it popping pretty good. I like just a little bit, nothing loud or nasty sounding. 30 mpg does sound like you're maybe running too rich. Time for a little tuning I think. Lean it out a bit. A dyno run will let you know what you need to change.

I have a little bit of decel popping, mostly gurgling. If it were all tuned out, I'd tune a little back in!

Thanks for that...I am so tired of hearing how much I should get a download from HD. Yeah right!
