Judging by the look of the pipes, you're running SUPER rich. All that soot on the pipes...

Thanks, can it wait until winter or should I take care of this now?

As others have already said, running rich won't hurt the engine. But if I were you I'd take it in and get it tuned. You're only getting 30mpg you said, I get a consistent 50mpg.

I have decel pop too, but it's not bad. After seeing this thread last night I listened carefully to it. It's not bad, and is most prominent during down shift.

Thanks, that's when I POP too, I ride pretty hard in Chicago traffic, a lot of fast slow fast hard acceleration.

Consider that those pipes are open (you did say open right... too many threads tis morning and not enough coffee) and some back pressure helps smooth things out. Would those pipes accept some type of insert?

Love these decel popping threads. Think I started one myself. Have a 2012 Fatboy with Big Radius 2 into 2 and stage 1 AC. I have the decel popping. Just had bike in for 1000 mile service, and asked about the popping. They said it is normal for that pipe and stage 1 configuration. Know they they at least rode it and checked it out, as there was 10 or 15 miles on the bike when I picked it up. Hope they at least confirmed that it wasn't and exhaust leak. Don't really want to go the tuner route, so might try the BCT QQ baffles. Guess it don't hurt the bike if your neighbors aren't complaining. Dig those short pipes - make my Big Radius look long. Good luck.

The DKCustoms Thunder Torque inserts (I sound like a broken record) eliminated the decel pop to a gurgle, are super cheap, mellowed out the sound, are easy to install, and made my bike come alive was my answer til I get (maybe) some Big Shot Longs. FWIW.

What kind of mileage are you getting?

Getting 40mpg with each tank. Mostly just back and forth to work - no highway - not sure whether it matters much on a bike. Check out 6th gear once in awhile just to make sure it's there. Seems OK to me, but I'm not sure what to expect,
