I have used the fishing line trick, but never paint thinner. WD-40 or goo gone, but I would be afraid of thinner.

Be careful with the GooGone, it's a mild abrasive.
Leave it in the sun for a while. Pry them off with either your finger or a small flat-blade screwdriver. Roll the remaining adhesive off with your fingers. Remove any access with WD-40. Pretty simple really...

This worked perfect for me as well... WD-40 has so many uses!
