Hi Guys, I'm thinking about buying a Heritage but I,m not up on all the model years from the 90's to the present. I just started riding a little over a year ago and purchased a used 87 sportster. Ya,I know I should have just waited and bought the Heritage but I wasnt sure if the Missus would like riding but the wife took to riding like a duck takes to water. Ill probably buy a use Heritage that will mostly be used 2 up. I,m looking for a comfortable ride for the wife but less vibs than the sportster. When did they come out with the belt drive, and balanced motor(B) need some help deciding on a used Heritage. Thanks
2000 was the first year of the TC "B" motor on a Heritage, I had one. If you go that route, if it is under a 2007, make sure the cam chain tensioners have been worked on. Wouldn't hurt to check the inner cam bearing also
for 10k U'll prob have to look at the 88's, most 07 and newer will be more.
the tennsioners on the 88's usually needs looked at around 25k,, some need replaced aand some don't at that time.
U don't need to worry about cam bearings,, Just if U ever do the Hyd upgrade and cams then U'll need new bearings.
lots of 88'' owners are waiting till its time to replace them, then they do the total upgrade at the same time, thats Hyd tennsioners, cams, inner and outer cam chains (make sure U do both), and bearing.
My 2000 (carbureted) Heritage has been bulletproof.
Cams, tensioner shoes & brgs were replaced @ 9500 mi.
It's relatively low mileage (26K) but I would leave for Florida
(today).
For 2 up, I would highly recommend the Mustang touring seat.
I rode a passenger (for the 1st time in a long time) a couple
weeks ago and she raved about the Mustang seat (and the
overall comfort of the bike itself)
I recently got a 2004 fuel injected Heritage @ your price range. It was kept in pristine condition. I just got new tires & have been adding stuff on a weekly basis. It came with both the stock rear seat & touring (wider) rear seat. The pic in my sig line is with the touring seat. I'm guessing it's about 4" wider than the stock one. It also has rear floorboards too. Those are much better than the stock pegs.
I have an 02 heritage for sale for 10k now. 18,000 miles, mint condition. I can't seem to find a way to post pics from my iPhone, but message me if interested
