Default Differance between Speedometer models, -04 or -07

I need some help on this because my dealer won’t tell me. What is the difference between a 74549-04 and a 74549-07?

I am not looking for 3.

In the book it says the -04 is for 2004 thru 2006 while the -07 is only for the 2007.

Is it just a light or something? I know the 2007 came out with the emission **** with oxygen sensors and such.
Both models have the same connector as far as I can tell but I have not been able to look at either one in person.
Is there a pin change?
Are there different options on the -07?
I can find the -07 by the truck load but can’t find any or the -04's.....
Any info besides 3 would be real helpful.

I believe, but could be wrong, that H-D went to a different computer system in '07. The '07 speedos are not interchangeable. I would love to find the combo speedo/tach for mine. Haven't had any luck yet.

If that is the case it sucks ***, but it makes getting parts for an 07 even harder because from what I have seen 08's are different even still. Its kind of like Ford in the late 60 and early 70's. every car had different parts and many were not interchangeable. It could be as simple as a different pin configuration. I will have to try to find some wire diagrams.

Yes, it does suck. considering most of those kinds of parts and accessories for my '04 are now obsolete. Always checking Ebay to see if someone has new old stock for sale. I wouldn't buy one til I'm sure it will work. I am pretty sure it's how all the electrics talk to each other that makes them incompatible. You can try checking H-D dealers on the web like Surdyke or Latus and others to see if one may have it. I've tried.

Right, with the prices that even some of the used ones go for I can not afford to just buy them and pop em in to see if they work. Of course if I wanted to pay the new price the dealer doesn't even carry it anymore. I don't know why but the on line catalog said all that were available were the KPH models, WTF.

WTF is a good question. I'll probably go with a Dakota Digital unit. They look pretty nice and have a lot of features. Plug and play if I read the instructions correctly for our years.

I looked at the Dakota unit; it says it fits 2004 - 2011. Very interesting that it can cover all those years with one gauge while Harley has a different one for every couple of years. I may have to buy an -07 just to try it and if it doesn’t work then resell it on eBay.

Let me know how it works out. Dakota may have spent the time to figure it out that H-D didn't.

So here is my Update to this. They work. The model # 74676-07 popped right in and fired up like a champ. It was completely plug and play. The only problem with it is the mileage, it is off by a few thousand miles but who cares.

Thanks for the update.
Now, why in the wide, wide world of sports would H-D not list that as usable on an '04-'06? That's the question I want answered.
