Default Merch 120 help

Hi all fist post hear. Im a gerahead/mechanic from Alberta with some old/new Merch parts.
I’m looking for info on what works on these old Merch engines.
I have Merch-(cases,flywheels,rods,stage 3 heads, oil cooler/ filter,MP72 cam I think.( if anyone has specks on this cam I would appreciate you PMing them to me) and Ross pistons.

I’m looking to get the rest of the parts to get this motor ready for a new bike.

What oil pump works? I have been looking at the Ultima HV on ebay. Is high volume needed??
Pushrods, tubes, roller rockers. Do stock evo fit?? Jims?
Carb or carbs or fuel injection?? I may go with a mega squirt system.
Charging and ignition advice would be great too.

I have a slightly used set of Ross pistons.
Does anyone know of better pistons?
They are 1.420 compression height. Ultima 120 are 1.2 so they won't work.

I may use them to see if I can get it running and put new ones in after I verify it has oil pressure after it warms up (I have read some Merch 120 had oiling problems). I dont want to spend a whack of money and have a dud.
Sorry for the bombardment of questions.
If anyone has parts for sale PM me as well.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Stephen

Hi Stephen, from the UK, and welcome to HDF. You have a challenge by the sound of it! There are some experts over in the Tech section who can probably help you, so I suggest you post over there. Hopefully you'll get more help from them.

Gerry Merchant is working with Luc Leblanc of Kent County Custom in New Brunswick Canada doing Merch rebuilds and building Fatso's. They're just starting out. You might want to give them a call and see if they can help?

Hey Tehan2 you still out there? Or anyone else that is willing?
I never got too far on the Merch. Just having another look at setting this thing up.
It's bored and fitted to Ross pistons. Crank rods and pistons temporarily set up in the cases.
I'm just looking for some more info.
I will just stick with head stuff.
Some measurements I took the other day.
Squish is .055= 12.78cc
Piston displacement is 988cc
Head cc where the valves are at now is 90cc
Looks like about 9.6:1

I have stage iii heads they were un finished. I had a valve shop cut the seats and do the guides. I think they left some seat so if I had them ported it would prevent accidental scuff of the seat.
I'm looking for valve stem protrusion specs.
They are at in 1.923 ex 1.913 any idea on spec? I'm guessing 2" is the majic number?
As for the cam info you gave me ( a little late but thanks a bunch) tdc lift in.251 ex.233
I take one sets the valves out to those specks and measures valve to valve clearance.
Any idea what that clearance is?
I will leave it at that for now.
Thanks for any help.
