Does anyone know what this connection/wire is for?

I pulled off my air cleaner and this is what I found. I have a 2007 FXSTD. My brother has one too and he pulled his air cleaner and found the same connection/wire hanging there like in the picture.

Anyone know what this is for or where it might go? Both bikes are stock.

The plug goes into the back of the air cleaner on California and some European model bikes. It's called an is Active Intake Solenoid switch and when you shut the bike down it closes the throttle plate so gas fumes can't escape into the atmosphere. You can just zip tie it up out of the way or remove it altogether.

Never cut the blue wire.

 

As NickD already mentioned, it is just the wire that controls a small "flap" at the entrance of the stock air intake. It's standard on all European models, maybe also Californian ones.
I didn't cut it, just tie-wrapped it away behind the intake manifold.

 

Try to seal the end so water can't get in there.
