I know condensation in the speedometer on HDs is a fairl;y common problem.... but the condensation in mine has left a residue / film on the glass that's driving me crazy.. (I'm a picky SOB).. I want it out...
Can the speedometer on an 05 Hertage be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled without harming the speedometer?
There may even be a youtube on this one... basically you modify a paint can lid opener by rounding it's corners slightly and work your way around the metal pressed on ring that holds the glass. I would see if I could find a dessicant packet(s) that you can leave inside the unit once you put it back together, also.
Thanks for the reply, I wish I had seen the paint can opener comment before I attempted to dismantle the speedometer this morning... I used a couple of small flat head screwdrivers to un-crimp the metal ring and I broke the glass...
Didn't matter because the film on the glass wouldn't come off anyway and the local glass shop cut me a new lense for $5.00... ran a hair dryer on it and reassembled with a little silicone this time... Looks like new again..
