Default Fuel gauge

How accurate are the fuel gauges. I ride a Heritage softail and I know the gauge is not accurate. The dealer said he wouldn't trust any gas gauge he said to use my trip and at about 150 miles than fill up is this normal or what? A buddy of mine told me that the float often sticks so that is what he does to.

Me and 2 others in here claim accurate gauges. I still use my trip meter. 170 miles give or take and fill 4.5 gal. Low fuel light comes on usually with 1/2 gal. left.

My low fuel light just came on and I looked in my tank and it still looks like I have a couple of gallons in there. I have a 5 gallon tank and my trip meter was at 130 miles since my last fill up.

Yup, they're nice bikes, too bad they don't come with a fuel gauge for $15,000-$20,000!

I've seen a couple guys in here mess with them try "fix" it. Don't think I've seen too much success. Maybe they'll chime in.

Yea I am not going to go to all that trouble in trying to fix it. I heard it can be a pain. I will just use the trip meter. I was just wondering if this is a common problem.

Yup. I am considering going with flush mount cap and gauge side. But I don't want to give up something so rare either.
