Get over it. Twin cam with EFI is not gonna be the sound your lookin for. Lower the idle to around 900 and go with a cam. That is as close as you will get to the old school sound.

Carb'd bikes sound better at idle because they idle lower. Just the way it is. I've got a EFI bike and have done waaay too much to it to even think about selling it, but I really wish I would of gotten a carb'd bike. Besides sounding better, they are just simpler and when it comes to me working on bikes, simpler is better. I really wanted to change out my fuel tank, but with EFI, there just aren't any cost effective options. I rewired a lot of my bike too and the check engine light never worked since the rewire. Other than relocating the check engine light, I didnt change the way it was wired, so I could never figure out why it no longer works. I've never checked my bike for trouble codes since then, but I'm hoping that trouble codes will still read properly.

I've got a carbed 2006 night train for sale on Tulsa Craigslist. It's got "the sound".

Clubber, Ya without work you aren't going to achieve that sound. Hope you can find a good deal on a carbed Fat Boy. You should get a good price for your ride though. And walk away with some coffee money. Good Hunting.

Tx. I was gonna wait till this one is paid off in the next year or so and I can add the fat boy. I figured the prices will only get lower over time. I just wanted to make sure it was the carb that was making the sound.

I didn't know cams would come close to that sound though. Food for thought.

The thing is . you can adjust the idle on a carbed bike to where it sounds like it will stall...EFI bikes are a little different. I always liked the sound of a carbed bike but like the EFI for the start n go aspect, specially in the winter.

I've got Evo's and Twin Cams.. Carbed and EFI...

My EFI is done up with a big bore and cams and a nice 2in1. The sound is more like a stock car than "the harley" sound.

My 02 TC carbed has a cam and dual fishtail exhaust.... It sounds great.. But does not have "the Harley" sound.

My EVO's are both carbed with dual crossover exhaust with a decent baffle. I have the idle set down just a touch on one of them..... They sound great...

When most people, mostly the older generation riders talk about "the harley" sound, they are mostly referring to shovelhead..

Truth is... What is "the harley" sound?..... With a set of exhaust and different cams you can achieve a great sound and a great running bike...

I have an 06 Softtail Standard with carb and the wife has a 2010 fuel injected Sprtster 48. Both bikes have Vance & Hines shortshot staggered exhaust and the 2 sounds may be similar but with the 2 different motors, it is not even close.

on side note, I just put my 06 up for sale 2 days ago.
