Default New to Me

Preping for my trip to Sturgis this summer I decided to make some changes. Ordered Shotgun Shocks from JD and a car tire for rear. Pearl is a 2011 Fatboy Lo and bottomed out with my bride and me and gear. There for the shocks. The best I've gotten out of a rear tire is 4100 miles on a Metzler 880 200/50R 17. I read how much others get out of their tires but I've never done a burnout and this is the third tire in 11,700 miles so was getting quite old in replacement costs. The alignment is spot on and air pressure checked regularly. Just got abrasive roads here in Ak and Canada I guess. I mounted a 200/55R 17 General car tire in the back to see what it offered. Took me a few hundred miles to get the shocks figured out to where I wanted them. Was afraid to put too much pressure on either side but JD assured me they'll take it and they did. Much smoother ride and bottoming was not a jarring deal as before. The year before I bounced my grafted on Road King bags out of the brackets twice and didn't happen this year. Like the shocks. The tire is mixed bag at this point. It corners great(though you have to muscle it more) and gives a very confident feel while in the corners. It stops better than the brake can give as in no lock up and is a very smooth ride. The negitives are it chases every rut in the road and hates supers in the road if your not up to speed. Going up on a curve at an angle you best have a grip. I played with air pressure from 28 to 44 and find it best a 42. Fresh chip seal will drive you nuts and long fractures in the road will wake you up quick. I do have 5700 miles on it now and looks good for at least another 5k. It's great on rain soaked roads and driving through guts. Just out of Arlee, Montana we were going over a pass and the car in front of us hit a moose or horse. Blood and guts everywhere and I was in the lead of my two brothers. I go through ok but Joes slides around a bit and Cory gathers up some guts. It was night time and the next morning looked pretty ugly with all three bikes covered in blood. I'll probably continue to run it till its done but if someone comes out with a motorcycle tire that gets some milage I'll probably change back. Just takes alot more muscle to move it through the corners and it's just not a flicable as it was before. Well there you have it and was an awsome trip except the last 400 miles in the pouring rain.
