Got a 2006 FXSTDI Deuce with a TC88 engine and a whopping 6k on the OD. Yea it has not been ridden a lot, was my fathers. Anyhow I have put a PC-V, auto tune, SEHB, & V&H big radius 2/2s on. Long story short, I'm bitten by the power/mod bug bad!
Thinking about some engine upgrades. I have three main options but am open to ideas. What i have thought about is: a FuelMoto 98 kit, a SE 95 kit with possibly some SE heads, OR bite the big bullet and spend a butt load on a 103 kit which also includes heads.
I will not be doing the work. The most expensive of my options so far to install is the 103 kit cause supposedly it involves some milling while the case is split. I think it is in the neighborhood of $2500-/+!!! Honestly, it might be cheaper to just swap engines, but im not sure. The 98 & 95 would be much simpler and economical. I have searched around some and read some posts, but there is only like a gazillion out there to read. So I wanted to get some opinions flat out and more direct.
Which mod would you choose, or do you have a different idea? My goal is to do this once, spend the $$ once, and be satisfied. Reliability is a MUST, so is longevity. And I am trying not to get myself in a situation where crap needs a ton of extra/more frequent maintenance.
I would go with the fuel moto 95 kit. Great hp and even better tq. Really between there 95 and 103 kit numbers I dont think its worth the trouble of the 103.
This is quite true! And one that I do not have an answer for especially since it varies between people.
To others... No I don't neasecarily have a butt load. But a valid argument which interests me is: is there a big enough gain between the 95 w/heads or the 98 FuelMoto package (maybe even with SE heads also) VERSUS the 103 to warrant the substantial price increase to get the 103 kit?
Is the 103 upgrade by SE or some other company. If you're talking about the 103 kit by SE, I'd get the 98 kit by FM and do their "B" headwork option (ideally on some heads from a stock 96ci motor) and that will put you right there with the SE 103 or better.
Need more info. What type of riding do you do i.e. backroads, highway, city etc, one up or two up, where do you want the power to be. I would recommend get in touch with some of the more well known engine builders throughout the country and talk with them. They will all recommend something different but yet similar. Go from there. I have a 95 in my 06 fatboy with andrews cam conversion and running a 37n cam. No head work but .030 gasket and make 95 hp/tq with no "real" dyno time. You will only be happy for a year or two then want more just the way it goes.

I'd say I am a pretty well rounded rider. City & country roads, mostly with just me on the bike. That might change as the little lady is really wanting to hop on there with me. This is one reason for the power mod ideas. But even then, the majority of time it will just be me. I have not done many long trips, I.e. over 200 miles in a day. But that too might change. I would not say that it would become a normal occurance though.
I believe I might be a bit more interested in the power being greater at low end through mid range. But it would be nice not to have so much lag time when cranking down on it in 5th. Then again that is why they make 4th gear LoL!

The 103 would be a SE. The idea of having FuelMoto work over a stock set of heads is a good idea. I could get an extra set to be worked up while keeping my stockers so the bike is not down forever, and it can still be ridden to the shop for the upgrades.
I'm still a newbie, so why the stock 96 heads? Is it a dome size issue? And obviously I guess a 96 head would fit on a 98 FuelMoto modded engine. I'll read up a little more on their options.
