Well, I have performed almost every mod on my bike. Everything except the dealer download. I have a pretty long list of things I've rewired, bolted on, taken off, repositioned, serviced, etc. In all the wrenching I've done, I have never scratched the paint.
That is, until today...
I was just finishing up putting on my detachable docking hardware for my sissy bar and relocating my turn signals. I put the seat back on and when I went to tighten up the rear bolt on the fender, the screw driver slipped off the mounting screw and I gouged my fender all the way to the metal in two spots. It was surreal. I am still in shock.
Now I guess I have a new project. Applying the touch up paint kit.
my neighbor did the samething, scratches right down to the metal. but he used 2 of those leather fender patch things, from under the seat to under the tail light, looks actually better then it going half the way. sewing it to have the symbols on the leather strips match up was an issue and i heard many mother effers and ***** coming out of his garage, but after all said and done, its looks really good.
Ouch is right Dude.. Sorry to hear it.
I hate that stupid bolt there.. It's just in a bad spot all around to be waving a screwdriver around.
My rear fender is looking so rough ontop from just the seat rubbing but I can at least cover it up with rear seat.. but your little 'uh ohh' sounds like it hurt you as much as the fender paint.
I think the touch up paint will take care of it. It comes with a tube of factory color paint and a tube of clear coat. Supposedly you just get a fine tipped brush and follow the instructions. It will at least make it less noticeable.
I had a small scratch under the two up seat on top of the fender. I don't know how I scratched it, I'm alway careful, but it happened. I bought some touch up paint and touched it up - you can hardly see it now. Good Luck
I'm thinking I might just get some flat black spray cans and make myself never worry about my paint again. hehehe Dare me? Ah, it'd just be too much work.. It's enough to clean the silly thing.
Get rid of the screw!.....JP Cycles has a Kit with a stud that stays in the fender and a chrome cap that you thread on the stud with your thumb..........No more tools needed to remove your seat..........No more worries of slipping off the screw
