I must have some sort of issue, the chrome plate that the rubber piece sits on can move as much as 3/4 of a inch side to side, easily by hand. the front of the board seems solid, the sideways movement is coming from the back. I will swing my the Harley place today and pick up a service manual/book and inquire about it.
Ya, that sound like a problem. Mine only moves a little from side to side. Nowhere near to 3/4".

That's not good! That said, you should know that the metal part of the board is hinged where it is attached to the bracket that mounts it to the bike. The outside edge of the board should move up and down vertically. It is hinged along the length axis of the bike. This is so that the board will pivot when the bike leans over far enough (which isn't very far on a Harley). It will definitely surprise you and it will make "a bit" of noise. At night it will also create a nice shower of sparks for anyone riding behind you. However, the metal portion of the board should not rotate horizontally. If the metal portion of the board does rotate horizontally either the bolts that attach the board to it's bracket are loose or the bolts that attach the bracket to the frame of the bike are loose.
