I use cycle vision's barebacks, they work great and they don't make your bags stick out. You can buy them on ebay for 70 bucks and free shipping. You still have to buy the detach kit for your sissy bar and side plates if you wanna take it off but you have to buy it all seperately anyway.
i use the cycle visions bareback and detachable sissy bar kits too and i love 'em!!!
I did go the HD route with the attachments that included Docking Hardware, Saddlebags and Sissy bar/pad. Personally I like the way my bike looks without any bags or bars, but the need to carry items prompted me to have that ability. The system is really easy to use once on. It takes less than a minute to put the bags on. Same for the sissy bar. My One complaint on the bags are that they are not wide enough. I cant get a half helmet in there! Its formed plastic with nice leather covering it. You can get a lot of raingear and clothes in there. Good luck and Hope these pix help.
What type of bags do you use and does it have any other attatchments on the bike when the bags are on(other brackets). Where did you get the docking kit also, any info would be appreciated.

I purchased the following:
Detachable Leather Saddlebags - Smooth
These large capacity Detachable Saddlebags are completely removable with the simple pull of the internal handle, leaving your bike clean and ready to cruise the boulevard. The handsome leather bags feature hidden quick-release clips behind the traditional strap and buckle. When removed, the large capacity bags leave behind two simple, inconspicuous docking points. The bags are compatible with both rigid and detachable accessories when installed with the appropriate docking hardware kits. Luggage capacity: 2400 cubic inches total.

Memo,
With this set up, I can attach just the sissy bar or just the bags, or both at the same time. It was pricey, but does give quick easy options. Hope that helps.
I've attached some pix of the location of the saddlebags in relation to the footpegs (Sorry about the fuzziness). HD does warn that passenger floorboards can't be used with these saddlebags. It appears they can, but I haven't made that jump yet. You may want to look closely at the passenger footboards attachment site before proceeding.

I heard good things about Cycle Visions bareback.
One question: the barebacks allow the bags to be removed from outside? I mean, even if lock the bag with some lock device, the bags can still be removed?
