riding position, since none of us have tried a dyna, and probably won't either, before he buys a bike.
City, short rides, twisties = Dyna.
Comfort, relaxed, touring = softail.
As far as riding position you sit up on the bike on a Dyna and more down into the bike on a Softail. Especially if you have a aftermarket seat like mine. One of the things I love about my Heritage. And the wife likes being able to see over me than around me. Don't get me wrong, it's not like you can't go long distance on a Dyna, I've put over 600 miles in a weekend on a Dyna. However, If I had a choice between a Street Bob and a Night Train; I go Night Train. Not only is it a softail, but it's a bad *** looking bike.
Dyna's and softail's are two completely different bikes. I have one of each and they each serve their purpose. the Dyna is far sportier and handles like a dream compared to the softail, however the softail still handles quite well in the proper circumstances.
If you want to go fast and carve canyons the Dyna is what you want. If you are bar hopping the softail is more than sufficient. If you want to do long trips either is fine. A lot of it has to do with how you set it up.
Thanks for the input guys, but he decided to go for a Forty Eight. Should be good since its his first bike, and its probably capable of driving circles around my stock bones.....
If you're looling for handling why are you buying a Harley in the first place. Harleys are built to cruise not go flat out on twisties. Seems there's always a newb trying to make an apple an orange.
Some men like fat girls, some like redheads, some like physcos, some like dynas some like soft-tails....geezus it's not about what others like it's about what YOU like....LOL
I always like skinny girls.....l but I never turn down the fat ones! I had a superglide, I thought it handles better than my softail. I just like the clean lines of the softail and it's looks better than the dyna. They both have their qualities, good and bad
