Default metric or standard??

I did my first real modification to my bike today. It is a 2012 Fatboy Lo. I installed a set of rush slip on mufflers. All of the fasteners seemed to be standard sizes. I am just a little puzzled by it. I have been a professional mechanic since 1994. Everything is metric. I don't even have a full set of standard tools.

American Union workers manufacture Harley Davidson. SAE is what they choose. Everything you find on a Harley that is Metric is aftermarket. They don't have a full set of SAE either.

Harley has a mix of both. Your must haves are metric and standard torx bits and allens, 3/8" drive. Metric open/box end wrenches and metric standard depth sockets. Buy the best quality ratchet drive torx bits you can get, you dont want to twist 1 off.

I tried for 10 minutes to crack loose the exhaust bolts on the back. They would be tough to get to anyway. My socket kept slipping. I finally dusted off the standard set, grabbed a 3/8 and it came right off. That is the biggest surprise yet on my new bike

The clamps were 9/16, and the small attaching fasteners were 3/8.
