I have a softail custom, and I love the bar height and everything about them. I'm just wondering if there are bars out there that are 1" (same as stock) and also drilled for internal wiring. I'd really like to get a set that I can run the wiring on the inside. Do I need to step up the diameter of the bars to do so ?
I debated doing the same thing... drilling holes and running the wires inside my stock bars. The downside is they already have holes on the outside for the wires to attach to the outside so it's not a "clean" look. You will also have a harder time running the stock wires through your stock bars (being they are only 1")... but I'm sure it could be done.
I ended up selling my stock bars and bought some Wild 1 12" Chubby Outlawz and I couldn't be happier. They really compliment the FX front end and are more comfortable than the stocks (which were comfortable also to me).
Check out this thread and if you do change them or drill them, you can probably learn alot from my issues. lol
you have 2 options really... you can drill in the dimples and then smooth out the area... or you can buy pre drilled bars... either way works fine... just be suer you can pull a cotton ball though without it gettin caught up and you know your smooth and filed enough if you drill them yourself...
from here you can either cut and solder or you can also unplug the pins and then just replug them in... both work
here is a write up i did a while back if yoiu have trouble getting the wires though baby powder really helps great! if you have any questions at all i am more than happy to help out just shoot me a PM (on these i had to ext the wires but on yours you will jut have to unplug and run them then plug them back in

I saw your baby powder trick when I was doing mine. I ended up spraying some WD40 in mine and that helped alot. I didn't need any for the right side but the left side has more wires so it took some wiggling and WD40 to get them through.
