I am changing my wheels and need some advice on the best tires to buy. I was going to order Metzlers but i have read customer reviews complaining of poor tread life and major problems with sidwall splits/cracks.
I have been using HD Avons which are hard wearing but are a poor grip in the wet.
Can anyone pls advise me as to a good make which can deal with the wet road conditions of the UK and with a decent tread life pls?
Tire sizes will be 140/75 17 front and 160/75 17 rear
I am happy with the Michelins. They seem OK in the rain, but I haven't pushed them or had any panic stops. I have ran Metzlers. I found them unimpressive and slick in the rain. I didn't have any quality issues with them though.
thanks for that guys, i have settled on the Michelins
I have standard HD Avons at the mo but the front is 72 h load and speed and the Michelins are 67v - rear avon is 71h the michelin is 73v.
Can anyone advise if this is something to worry about or will the Michelins be ok. I think the Avons are a higher load rating.
Sorry if this is a pain but i have been told to check this
Try this link. It's a single source, so I would cross check it with another source only cause it's from some dude on the internet. Not an unreasonable thing to check, but unless you are doing some crazy insane riding with a half ton loaded on your bike, you'll be fine. http://www.maxxis.com/MotorcycleATV/...e_load_indexes
Ran Metzlers the last 7 years and thought they were good till now. Just got the Elite 3 from Dunlop and it's a whole new bike. Very responsive and sticky tire.Hard to believe they smoothed the ride like they do. Only ran them once in the rain and grip was very good. No panic stops wet so can't comment. Way better tire than the Metzler's IMHO. It took a lot for me to use a Dunlop because the stock ones suck so bad.Tire man had nothing but good to say about the ones on his bagger. Looking at the wear after 9k I had to try them, glad I did.
