I posted Saturday that I broke my belt. Hoping to get a little more input this time around. I was wondering if anybody knew where to get a chain conversion or a stronger belt for my 2007 Custom. The previous owner also had trouble keeping belts on the bike. He had two put on at the dealership within 3 months. Im making decent power but nothing crazy, mods are 103" kit, .251 Cams and ported heads. I have a buddy with almost the same mods (.255 cams) and he has the same problem. Is it because the belts are so small on the 200's? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Zippers doesn't list a kit for mine, but I'm going to give them a call. I also noticed that a couple softails on exile cycles have a chain on them and thought about giving them a call also. Thanks again.
Sunday: I have the Exile Sprotor w/ chain drive on mine. You can buy a front sprocket from any of the catalogs (Drag Specialties, etc...) pretty cheap. From there, it's all getting the correct spacers for proper alignment.
Branner - you have any pics of the exile setup? I'm running a Flyrite Choppers sprotor on my hardtail and like it pretty well, just wanted to see Exiles. How well do you like it?
That's kinda strange that you and your friend are going through belts. It's little uncommon for them to fail and 2 friends with the same issue...do you guys change tires yourself or go to the same place if having it done? I have a similiar build with 255 cams and never had a belt issue, nor did I ever have one on the 3 previous HDs although they didn't pull like the one I have now.
We find it strange also. We (me, my buddy and the PO) have tried 3 different dealers and put two on ourselves. At first I thought it was my bike until he started having the same trouble. Stock we had no trouble and were not making enough power to be snapping belts. I know they're skinny and all, but they shouldn't be breaking like this. I would think that out of the 3 dealerships somebody would have aligned it right? Never know with my luck though lol.
Branner - Thanks, i'll be looking into these for sure.
