I am thinking about adding a tach on my scoot but I have no idea what's involved. Can someone fill me in? I saw one that looks like it just replaces my dash and is a speedo/tach combo...that's what I am interested in but how do you install it? I assume its not just a plug n play kinda thing with the tach addition?
So you're replacing the Speedo with a combo unit? Most of the ones H-D sells are plug and play. I can't seem to find the analog unit for mine. Probably go with the Dakota Digital outfit. Those are pretty much plug and play also. I've got a cheapie tach on my handlebars til I get one.

Yea, I want to replace my stock speedo with a combo unit. I don't want to mount anything on my bars because I want to keep those simple and clean.
Man, k am looking all over the Internet's and can't seem to find a speedo/tach combo for my bike. Still searching though.
I went with part# 74744-08 on my bike. It is listed as only fitting 08-10 softails but that is for plug and play. Physically it will fit your bike. The wiring is another story. To be honest with you I can't remember if I had to buy a wiring harness adapter to make it work or if I just wired it on my own. When I did it I was rebuilding the entire bike top to bottom so my memory is blurred on it. I just remember I had trouble getting it to read accurate at first but finally got her figured out.
You know the old saying, "if I can do it, anyone can do it". It is pretty accurate in this case because when it comes to wiring and electronics I am a total moron.

Gotcha. I think I can probably tackle it then. I am surprised they are all about $300. More money.... more money...
