Are you powder coating or just buying new fronts? If you are buying new ones, what are you doing with the old ones?

Like I said, looks cool as hell! Leave it alone for a while.

Buying new frons top and bottom. I am going to keep them because I am really unsure if I will stay with the all blacked out front. Maybe just the slip on tops maybe all of it. I will know better when I get it back tomorrow evening. I have sen pictures of a couple bikes blacked out tht I like and some I hated. I am going to keep the chrome rim around the light definitely. A bike needs a little chrome. I think that is why I like what you did to your air cleaner. you can see more engine

Straight from HD's website:

Fuel Tank Nameplate

For those of you with nostalgia in mind, our popular fuel tank trims fit a wide selection of early models. In addition, we now offer adapter kits for later models. The adapter kits come with all necessary hardware for installation of fuel tank trim on later models. Adapter Kit Brackets are self-adhesive to accommodate most universal applications. All trim and adapter kits are sold in pairs.

I went to dealer last week and had him look up the very same badges and after he gave me the price (for the pair not per piece) asked him to double check just to make sure it was that low price because people are selling those sets on ebay for $125. He said absolutely was for the pair with backing plates not per side...

There are different kinds of "straight". There is, as what GeeRam says, "straight with the bottom of the tank" and what I think Midgard is thinking, "straight with the ground".

I think that it would look best if it looked like this in my PhotoShop altered image here.

If you look at most tank badges you will see that they are straight with the ground or damn close to it. Same way with the "Bar and Shield" tank badges. They all look straight and level with the ground so that when someone is standing by the bike and look at it, its level.

To the O/P, have you thought about having a matching bag made for the right side, and mounting them as saddlebags with quick detachable hardware? I think half the problem with the bag is its enormous size. Its just way to big to be a swing arm bag. But just the right size to be a saddlebag.
