Default Cam Selection

OK, the bike is a 2003 Night Train with Mikuni Carb, and stage 1 intake and exhaust.

Just finished installing Harley SE 203 cams. Although an improvement over stock, they are not the bang for the buck I was hoping for. I want a cam set that provides higher torque and performance, Just Off Idle and through Mid Range without sacrificing top end. Recommendations?

Look at woods 222, fuel moto has them. No dyno numbers for me but seat of the pants says great torque down low and very streetable cam

Not sure if the 222's will fit in an 88" motor, difference sized bearings and rollers and whatnot and whoforth... you're better off looking at some Andrews cams made for your motor.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. SE cams SUCK! Not one of 'em can even bring a 103 motor to 100 tq - and this according to H-D's own parts catalog. Pathetic. If you really want to feel the difference a good cam can make, don't even bother spending time or money on SE...

Headquarters 0039 is a great cam with head work, and you will need to change valve springs.

Andrews 26 if you're stay at 88."
You might want to look at the dyno "sticky" at the beginning of this section. Scott at Hillside or Jamie at FuelMoto are great to deal with and won't try to sell you something you don't need or want.

I don't know if I'd say SE suck. Exhaust choice has so much to play today. I did a TW222 on a '12 FLSTN 103" tc and got poor results with duals. as with a SE11 on a '97 80" evo I got big grins with duals. they are both mfg'd by Andrews. differnet motors and different requirements.!!!!! which side of the sword do you want to fall on?

Browse the dyno numbers for softail sticky on this forum to get an idea of cams and engine mod combos that are used to produce power through the rpm range. If you're just going to swap cams without increasing displacement or doing any head work, see what kind of number the Andrews 26 will give you. Did you have the bike dyno-tuned after changing cams? What did you do to the carb after swapping the cam? If you swap cams again, change the inner cam bearings with Torrington B148's if you didn't do it the 1st time. A Baisley spring in the cam plate will help the oil pressure as well. My advice would be to save some money and then go to 95", an Andrews 37 cam and stage II head work. Add a seat belt and you'll be ready to roll.

Just doing cams should give U a 12-20% improvement at different RPM's..

To really understand what U want, Put in here Ur before cam and after cam Dyno's sheets so we can compare what U had to what U have.

Then we can see what Really happened to U Numbers instead of guessing what happened.

The SE 203's are not a bad set of cams, close to my 26h'ers and most others mentioned in here.

If U want more Tq U really need to look at a 95'' kit and some Good street head porting with a little higher compression... Then U should have a smile on Ur face a lot more.

Also what pipes U running.?. that makes a bid diff also.
