I can not get to a dealer today, but I am trying to get a good idea of what I want in the way of Handlebars. This is for a Fatboy lo. I am 5'10 but little short in arm length
As comparison I really like my wifes's CVO softtail mini apes. Here are the spec's. H 7 1/2" W 33" Pullback 12"
I thinking of adding a 4inch riser which from what people have said here will give about an inch pullback. Or maybe a 6inch riser, would that give me 2inch?
If I can get a 10-12 pullback that should be fine. Just want to make sure this sounds right.
I have a vested interest in this thread as well. I have never had apes so I am just learning about them as well. I want to put a set of Gangsters on this winter The one thing I question about your desired set up is how far away from the tree you are getting with 4 or 6 inch risers. I would think you would want risers that keep you as close to the tree as possible for handeling purposes. I just think the closer to the trees the better control you would have in like backing up to park or turning around. I have also heard of apes breaking and I can't help but wonder if tall risers contributed to that in any way, shape or form.
I would sure suggest looking at alot of pictures before doing this. The general consensus is, and I sure agree with it, apes and risers don't look good together. I would sure suggest short risers and taller bars, and I would make sure the riser/clamps were drilled so you could pin the bars. I have had both and bars that don't want to stay tight are a real pain.

Thanks Yandeltx, after talking with my HD Dealer which I have to say they are really good.
They suggested the exact same thing, be careful how you set it up. The mini apes I am looking at getting come with a 3inch riser according to the dealer. He said to lets put the bars on and then see how it is.
ll be doing the paperwork tonight and ordering. probably will not have it till next week. ill post some info and pic's when I do.

You'll probably regret that set up. Mini apes with 3 inch risers will look kinda dumb. The only time risers look good is with straight bars, drag style bars. For less cash you could easily go with a set of 14"s and use your stock risers. It will look 100% better. Mini apes with tall risers look like you cheaped out and makes the bike look lame. Looks like a true wannabe. Not to mention the mini apes are narrow compared to real apes. If you want apes or higher bars do it the right way. The dealer just wants your money.
What's the height your looking for? 14 - 16" to the top is common. Also the shorter the risers the better.
Personally, I've got 4" risers with 10" mini apes. I had 4" risers with a 2" pull back but the bar clamps hit the speedometer console so i when to straight ups.
